XP Drivers for Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221 - Do they exist?

CherylG.  Your solution was perfect for my Compaq Presario C700 which was downgraded from Vista to Windows XP Professional.  There is a new wrinkle now in that Microsoft is trying to force an update for the Conexant HD SmartAudio 221 driver.  If downloaded and installed, it kills the sound again!!!!  How can one avert this Microsoft update other than by trying to be vigilent?  Apparently, Microsoft considers this machine to be a Vista machine because that is what was on it originally!  Help!  CharlesD.

Unzip to a folder...use Device Manager.

From Device Manager,right click "Audio Device on High Def Bus",choose Update driver,

No to connect,

Install from a list or specific location,

Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,

For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'

Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".

Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".

Ignore XP when it complains.

Reboot.

Hi All

Without re-duplicating what has been said, allow me to confirm the folloing on this issue:

HP G7070EI Notebook

Win XP Pro SP 3

Conexant HD Smartaudio 221 Chip

The following files and procedure solved my audio issue:

1.) Downloaded and installed MS UAA HD Driver (sp32646.exe, see previous posts for download url);

2.) Downloaded and manually installed Conexant HD Smartaudio 221 driver (sp3400.exe, see previous posts for download url);

This procedure solved my audio problem, it did not however solve the buil-in mic issue. The built-in mic does not work at all. If any one has a solution for this, please inform.

Ok...so here's the story!

I was in the same situation like you people! well amost...

I do not own a compac....but its a Packard bell Me35

Also only available for vista!

I have searched 2 days to complete all drivers

the conexant smart audio 221 that only works on vista now works on my windows XP

I have spend 2 days of trying all kinds of driverupdate programs..and i finnaly grabbeld them all togheter...

Please dont be angry if some drivers dont suite your device...as i said..it worked on my Me35...

So I am not shure if it will work on your compaq or other devices

Here is the link to all the drivers! I have shrinked them into an exe...i prefer extracting them in a folder...or your desktop will be filled with driver folders...then its up to you wich driver you want to install..but to be shure i put all -in....
