ZD7000 Motherboard Options

[ Edited ]

Product:  Pavillion zd7000

s/n:  CNF43412LQ

p/n:  DN730AV

I need to replace the motherboard on my zd7000 due to failure of the integrated nVidia Go5700 graphics chip (overheating issues).  The part number I have is 365894-001 with NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5700 / 128MB.  I see some other options (from the online manual) include:

356669-001 - Go5600 Ultra / 128MB

365891-001 - Go5200 Ultra / 128MB

Any ideas about whether either of these might avoid a repeat of the overheating damage?

I also seem to recall reading a couple of years ago about a version of the motherboard that was produced using ATI graphics to.  Any advice will be appreatiated!

Re: ZD7000 Motherboard Options

I have the same problem, and had no luck getting HP to fix it under the recall from the class action lawsuit.  Seems like some people got them fixed and some don't, not sure why.  My paper work was a couple months late, but then got some USA / Canda excuse, since I live in Canada.

Anyway, if you figure out an option on the motherboard I'd like to know what you find out.  My notebook is mint, since it hasn't been used, and would really like to get it running properly.

Have you tried a HP repair center? I was thinking of that, but I'm sure they would charge a fortune.

Thanks

Your notebook is 5 years old, be happy!  The average lifespan of a notebook is 3-5 years...it's time for a replacement.  The cost of a replacement motherboard and task of changing out the board isn't worth it.  As for ATI graphics...you have nVidia graphics so it wouldn't matter.

Re: ZD7000 Motherboard Options

I would agree on the life span but it's been on the shelf for over 3 years.  It basically in museum shape, where I guess it will end up.

I believe that HP was replacing these NVIDA's graphics motherboards with ATI graphics motherboards, so there should be something around.

My HP dv5140ca just crapped out, after 4 years, and I had to get the zd out from retirement to get some things done.  These lines drive me crazy and got me checking message boards again.

Thanks

Re: ZD7000 Motherboard Options

The notebook died after about 15 months, just after the warranty expired.  I bought a new PC before HP started the recall, and I never bothered to get involved in that after I had the new PC.  This just seemed like a good project - to get a second computer to put in our kitchen.

I found an OEM part on ebay, but it didn't work completely, either.  With the NVIDIA driver, it wouldn't work at all; when I disabled the NVIDIA driver, the display worked!  There were vertical lines, but with a high enough resolution setting, they were minimal.  Overall graphics quality wasn't that good without the NVIDIA part working.

I sent that board back, and just installed another one (from the same dealer) today... Now the computer won't even power on!

The good news is, I can swap out the system board in just about an hour now!

Re: ZD7000 Motherboard Options

I have had the same issues.

Another class action lawsuit regarding these same issues is currently forming.

Check this website...

HP ZD series suck.  I have had nothing but problems with mine, for years.

Hopefully this time we can nail HP, and get our laptops fixed or replaced.

Re: ZD7000 Motherboard Options

Hey thanks for the info I been looking all over for the solution to my dilemma and hope a class action would follow on the rip off first class action that ripped off most people of a pc that was working properly and came back a piece of junk when HP replaced the mother board. I have bought many HP products but since this deal with this pricey paper weight I have bought my last HP.
