Hi.
I noticed that my dv7-6199sl has the space for a second hard drive. There is the caddy but not the cable. Before I buy the cable
(I don't know where yet, perhaps HP's spare parts site) I need to know if it is possible to boot from the second hard drive with my laptop model. Thanks in advance.
Best
John

Thanks for the prompt answer.
Another couple of questions:
Could I boot from a usb external hard disk with one of the usb3 ports?
Let's say I want to install a second drive anyway where can I get the cable? And could it be shipped outside the US (I currently reside in italy).
Thanks again.

Hi John,
My best guess would be that as the USB 3.0 ports require a driver to work correctly, trying to boot from it ( when the driver isn't loaded ) may not work - this is not a definitive answer, but I do know bootable recovery media certainly has problems booting from a 3.0.
Regarding the cable for the second HDD, I would suggest sending a query regarding this matter to HP at the Email address in the document below.
