cd dvd not listed in computer or device manager

Hello all,

my cd dvd drive (:E) isn't listed when I click on my computer and in the device manager, there isn't a cd/dvd drive listed.

I have searched here and tried all suggestions...

Microsoft fix it and manually remove high and low pass filters.

This happened before and the registry changes fixed it.

This time I go to that reg entry and there is no hi/low filters listed. It is the correct line because it is the cd/dvd class.

I have a pavilion dv7-1135nr running vist hm prm 64

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Greg

Is the drive visable in the BIOS? Can you boot from your recovery discs?

Hey Adam,

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure how to check if it's listed in the bios?

 Could you explain?

Thanks,

Greg

Re: cd dvd not listed in computer or device manager

Press Esc, F1 and F2 until a Blue BIOS screen comes up. See if the optical drive is listed under hardware.

Re: cd dvd not listed in computer or device manager

OK Adam,

I guess you meant doing that at start up.

Press esc. at boot and a screen comes up F1 is sys info, F2 is sys diag. No blue screen.

F1  brings up this info...

Model

prod #

sys board

proc type

tot mem

bios vers

serial #

uuid #

KBC

prod config ID

OS

I have a program installed called SIW, this is like system info and device manager more complete than windows version.

In this program under devices there is no cd/dvd listed, but under the bios tab in this program it is, if that helps.

Re: cd dvd not listed in computer or device manager

If it is listed under the BIOS but not the operating system, the issue is likely the operating system. Try doing a system restore back to a date when the optical drive worked.
