I wanted to upgrade my HD on my Compaq presario v2000 and it doesn't seem to recognize the drive. I can't even seem to get into the BIOS as the system just seems to try and boot from Ethernet right from the get go....any suggestions?

check the jumper settings of your hard drive, if its on the same ide cable, 1 drive must be master and the other is slave, if they are both in master or slave setting your motherboard wont recognize the two drives and thats why it tries to boot on lan.
hope this helps

Nice to see a pos of V2000z notebook model.
I have this model, still working perfectly with major upgrade of CPU, Memory, Harddisk and even adding Bluetooth in it. ![]()
I upgraded to seagate 120 GB two years ago without any problem. Which version of BIOS are you using?
Pavilion DV2922TX, XP-SP3 32bit, Intel T5750 2.0Ghz, Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS with 128MB, 4GB 667 DDR2, 250GB HDD

I'm using F.27 BIOS version. After the 3rd attempt (plugging in, removing, replugging in again), I got the computer to boot with the new 160GB HD. I initially thought that there might have been a BIOS incompabitility with HD > 137GB in size....but i got it to work now (I probably didn't have the HD adapter fit properly....) In any case, its working now....what processor did you put into your V2000z? I think mine is the 1.8ghz...do you know what the fastest processor i can install is?

Good to know your problem has been solved.
I bought a Sempron CPU, installed Turion 64 ML-32, probably the same you have now.
I installed just for fun to test XP-64bit. Now it belong to my son that learn his "fun" educational software.
The fastest CPU you can installed is ML-37 according to service manual here
You can try ebay to find used turion64, its so cheap now and considered as antique.
