Re: dm1z temp

My DM1Z had its motherboard and cooling unit replaced under warranty within a month of purchase.  FWIW, I got the sense at the time that HP was aware of a design flaw in some units because there was hardly any discussion before they shipped me a box for warranty repair.  It also came back with a slightly different/updated system board as demonstrated by the fact that the system restore disks no longer recognize it as compatible for the purposes of restoring the OS.  The new board never cracks 70 degrees even under 100% CPU load (usually between 50 and 60 degrees)....

You need to contact HP about the discs not working, they need to send you a free set that works with that board.

Or its possible the neglected to properly Tattoo the motherboard before shipping it to you. use F1 at the bios screen to see your Tattoo.

Either way HP needs to remedy the situation.

Be sure to record your COA license key somewhere safe, you may need it if you don't get the issue sorted and need to install W7 at a later date using a non HP W7 disc.

Re: dm1z temp

Been down that route twice since the original repair and they still did not get it right.  Oddly enough HP tech support did not seem to understand when I explained the HP system of tatooing motherboards .   The second time around (third includng the repair)  the case was elevated up to a support manager but the disks (yet again) did not work.  This includes two sets I made (one before and after MB replacement) and a new set shipped by HP.  FWIW, when elevated, the person did acknowledge that one issue was the replacement board was not the same motherboard as the original (the bios version was also different). Quite frankly, it is not a high enough priority to deal with again at the moment and there are simple work arounds for HP's recovery disks.  I'll address when it is convenient (and I am willing to spend an hour getting aggravated at support)....
