Esentially I believe the dv5's all share similar track pads, but my left click button has been squishy and sort of disabled towards the center of the button. Sort of what happens when dirt gets underneath the keyboard keys.
I was wondering, if there was a way of removing the where; similar to the way you can remove keyboard buttons? By prying carefully? I need to know, because it's starting to become worse. Wether it be the button became un-hinged, or theres particles inside... I would like for it to function properly, it also squeaks.
Thank you for your time
Sincerely,
John Balzac

Did you ever get an answer on this? Have same problem 1.5 year HP DV5 1000 left touchpad key. This seems to be a feature with HP. Last HP I buy, never had this problem with a laptop before. I want to pop the key to see if it just needs to be reseated.
Had 2 keys on the keyboard need this. Found info on them, just pry from the front, clip from the rear, push forward to reinstall.

This looks like an old post but I have had the exact same problem- left trackpad key broken- no resistance, etc. it initially broke in the 11th month and HP fixed it under warranty. The warranty fix had a 90 day warranty. It then broke again in the 16th month- 3 months after the initial fix- and out of warranty, of course. This time it cost me $280 or so. I received a 90 day warranty for that repair and guess what? Here I am at 120 days after and the key is broken AGAIN!
This certainly looks to be a possible design flaw or parts problem peculiar to the dv5 Pavilion laptops.
I refuse to pay another $280 +/- to have it fixed just being 30 or so days out of the last repair warranty period.
I just do not have any faith that HP can fix this correctly and feel I should be looking for a better manufacturer!
