[ Edited ]

i order a dv5t laptop for Chirstmas. i just opened it today, turned it on and used it for about 3 hours i turned it off for about 2 hours. and it would not boot.

all the lights would come on ,but the monter did not come on.it Hard drive LED would light up orange 1-7 times then turn off.called HP for help, they dont know whats wrong with it, and are sending me a repair box.after 3 hours of not messing with it i truned it back on and it booted, but after about 10-15 mins got the blue screen of death and the mute LED is Orange all the time.restarted and about 10 mins it crashed again, but not the BSoD(blue screen of death).the screen truns off but the LEDs stay on and the charge LED and HHD LED are lighting up(i didnt have the laptop pluged into power at the time)

Re: dv5 boot-up problems and crashing.

I just bought a dv5-1250 last night and today I had the dreaded blue screen, was told to take it back there might be something wrong with the hardware.... Took it back and exchanged it for another dv5, (instead of the Dell next to it) figured I'd give it another try if this doesn't work back to Dell.

Re: dv5 boot-up problems and crashing.

I had a very simliar problem as well and am VERY disappointed with HP's product. I bought the item in december 2008 and in april 2009, less than six months, it crashed. It turned out that it needed a new LCD screen, new CPU, and new Motherboard. How ridiculous is that? One day it worked completely fine, the next it wouldnt shut on.
