CPUZ: Mobile AMD Sempron 3000+ (Albany): Socket 754, MB 30A4. Can I upgrade to an AMD Turion ML 30?
Yes, you could also use the AMD Turion 64 ML-32, ML-37, or ML-40.
Parts compatible (and orderable) are found at http://partsurfer.hp.com

The only difference in the ML30 is 1600MHz as opposed to 1800MHz with the ML32. I guess the slower speed is not supported.
The Parts Finder which is a nice tool (and thanks for that, I did not know about that) could not find my laptop part number (ES186AV) nor could I find the motherboard, although that may have another number, and I resist taking my laptop apart again.
Can someone definitively state that the ML28/ML30 is not supported? Trusted the vendor that the cpu is good, I suppose that is my answere.

^Direct link to partsurfer's page for your PN.
I would assume that slower speed is supported, as they almost always are.

Ahh. Marks it as a dv5100. I would assume the same about the lower speed. rma'd it and bought a ml37 for just a few dollars more ($22 as opposed to $15). Would have purchased it originally but didn't see it in the search.
