Hello. I have a machine where the label on the LCD frame says Pavilion dv6000, but the underside labels say dv6700 and also dv6736nr. The BIOS is F.25. I've been seeing some strange hardware-related events in the Vista event log so I want to update the BIOS.
I've tried the dv6736nr BIOS and the dv6000 BIOS, but when I run either of them, I get an error "This BIOS is not for your PC."
Is there a workaround for this? It's pretty crazy, isn't it?

Is this the BIOS update you're trying to run? If so, let me know...I'll post a workaround.

Yes that's the one - dv6736nr bios F.32
Okay then.
- Go to the extracted folder "C:\SwSetup\sp42853)
- Copy the two .wph files from that directory and paste them into the "SWinFlash" or "WinFlash64" directory. (Use SWinFlash unless your OS is 64-bit)
- Rename the 1st .wph file as "BIOS.WPH"
- Right-click the "SwinFlash" file and choose "Run As Administrator."

Did this work for the OP? I am considering following the instructions in a similar (but not identical) situation.

It will work as long as it's the correct BIOS...I've done it on multiple units.

actually, I tried it with the correct bios for my machine - dv6450us - and in fact there was only one file with extension wph in the extracted set. even so, I copied it to the Swinflash folder and ran it the exe there. Now there is a bios.wph but the bios was not changed.
I am also wondering why the flash utility does not work - is it because I am forced to boot into safe mode?
