Re: dv6000 motherboard upgrade amd > intel

Frankly if it is $200 to replace the processor and motherboard to have an Intel and $80 for the AMD motherboard and you reuse the processor I would just as soon do the AMD. Neither solution is long-range. At best, you can count on an extra year out of the laptop or maybe 18 months if your luck is really good. You re paying rent on an extended lease of your laptop is how to look at it. The AMD performs pretty comparably to the Intel as long as it is working. The Intel is maybe more reliable but not over twice as reliable. I have done 2 AMD to AMD replacements and 2 AMD to Intel replacements; all have been working fine for at least 60 days. You have no warranty for this so I would go as cheap as possible and cross your fingers. Also really think about how good you are with electronics. This is a very challenging repair. There are lots of cable and subassemblies and different sizes and lengths of screws. One screwup will kill the laptop. I had a young tech use the wrong screw in the wrong place and it pierced the motherboard and that is the end of that. I had to buy a replacement.

Re: dv6000 motherboard upgrade amd > intel

HP customer service had informed me that the reason AMD was the contributing problem with the GPU failure was the high temps they generated. Considering how hot my Intel got that seems hard to believe. I don't think AMD's design was really the issue. It seems strange that HP will say nary a word against Nvidia-but will bury AMD in a heartbeat.

Re: dv6000 motherboard upgrade amd > intel

[ Edited ]

hi again; finally i decide to buy a motherboard with intel... i searched internet and i couldn't find a mobo with amd cpu and without nvidia chipset, but there is some intel mobos with intel chipsets... if nvidia causes the heat problem then buying a non-nvidia motherboard make sense, isn't it?

i've found these motherboards:

GM965 (446475-001)
GM965 (446477-001)

940GML(434724-001)
945GM(434723-001)

now, it's very hard to make a decision for me...  will all they work on my notebook? i mean without modification the case? if you were me what would you prefer?

And Huffer you said that i can use dv6500 motherboard but i should go for a case modification? what shoul i do to case? is it an easy think, can i do it in home? because i saw that there is no dv6500 with this problem :smileyhappy:

And also, 200$ is the cheapest way to have a notebook in Turkey, hp technical service wants me to pay 420$ to fix the problem... and buying a new notebook costs 1000$ because of the taxes is very high in Turkey, so i'm a student and not have much money so i decide to try cheapest but also the hardest way... and your replays and comments are too important on this procces.... thank you very much for interesting...

Edit: i've just found new things; 449902-001 and 449903-001 these motherboards are for dv6500+, i think only difference about the case is hdmi socket right? are they faulty like dv6000 amd and nvidia motherbords too, cause i think they have nvidia chipset too? or can i buy one of them? yeah, i know i've asked very much questions but they are all question marks in my mind...
