dv6810us died

Bought a dv6810us laptop in May 2008.  It died October 2008 - just shut off one day.  Now, when presssing the power button, a few LEDs flash for a split second, but that is all.  Power and battery are fine.  For $50 the local computer repair shop diagnosed that it is the motherboard.  Unfortunately the 68xx series is not included in the recall.

I called to report it to HP, and they verified the 68xx seres is not included in the recall.  The rep said if enough people call in with 68xx series issues, maybe it will be recalled, but until then, they can only offer to replace the motherboard for $3-400.

I doubt it will be listed as a service enhancement this late in the lifecycle...

Re: dv6810us died

My hard drive was ok. The motherboard is what died.

We took the computer to a computer shop and they took out the hard drive and put it into enclosure.  The enclosure has a USB connection, so it is like an external hard drive, and we can copy files off it.

I successfully installed the 6810us HDD in a enclosure.

I recommend:
