This answer is incorrect for a 1000 series dv7. I was just looking up for my own dv7 and the one needed is this one and no connector cable is included nor is it needed.

I don't understand how a 6" cable and a flimsy piece of metal can or should cost $40, I believe it's that way because they've basically cornered the market on it (I can't find it anywhere else). I cannot justify the cost and would rather apply that $40 to a larger single primary drive. The only reason I considered it was to put a solid state drive in the primary and move the mechanical drive to the 2nd bay. This is just one pear's opinion...

Hello. i have a HP Pavilion dv7-4177sf, and would like to add a SSD drive. Now, i know it is possible, the space needed for a 2nd hdd drive is present, also the cable conector's route is present too. The caddy and the cable ARE NOT! Also, the free cable port of the 2nd hdd drive is different from the cable port of the 1st hdd drive. They dont match! My guestion is: Can i add the 2nd hdd drive? And if so, what kind of cable i need? The kit with the caddy & cable exists? CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE?
