dv8-1010er and linux

Hello,i have one problem with my dv8-1010er and linux on it:

after shutdown, boot, this error occurs: "The system bios has detected your notebook PC was placed in hibernation to avoid overheating. The system is now operating normally and your data should remain intact. Overheating may occur if the cooling vents are blocked or the operating temperature exceed the specification. The notebook PC should return to normal operation once the situation is resolved. System Temperature (90D) "
I read that this error is solved by updating the BIOS, but for my model laptop I could not find the new version. Please'll show where you can download and update your BIOS version to fix this problem?
Sorry for my english)

Hello Kvendi,

I am owning an HP Pavilion DV8-1190ef.

The issue you are facing to is very well known by HP who is doing nothing on its Bios issues since at least one month.

You can fix this problem only by updating your BIOS version but today you are going nowhere. I explain...

You need to have at least BIOS F.12 for solving the following two issues:

- iPhone / iPod are not able to synch with DV8, and

- The system Bios has detected your notebook PC was placed in hibernation to avoid overheating (your concern linked to Linux but also to other cases even under W7 64 bits!). I will add this overheating message is not representative of the reality!

BUT HP has decided to remove from their WW web sites the latest Bios F.15 due to major crashes when DV8 owners were trying to make the updates. Then few days later HP put back on line the Bios F.06 (Nov. 2009). In the meantime between those 2 Bios versions you had on line at least Bios F.12 and F.15.

As usual HP is not communicating at all on all these main issues! You said Customers' satifaction!

So if today on your DV8 you have a Bios version smaller than F.12 you cannot fix your problem right now! You, I and all DV8's owners are obliged to wait for the good will of HP! When? Only God knows!

(Add) You can read more on this forum here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/DV8T-bricked-after-BIOS-update-F-15E/m-p/227039#M...

You have also add information elsewhere on this forum!

Good luck. Cheers.

Re: dv8-1010er and linux

Thank you for the information. Well, we can only wait for hp deign to lay out at least version f.12. However, the quality of support I have already shocked. More I will not tolerate such a mistake and will never buy a hp product.

Re: dv8-1010er and linux: NEW F.17 BIOS !

Hello,

:smileymad: New BIOS F.17 as of 03/05/2010 for all HP Pavilion DV8-1xxx put online today 03/26/2010 !

But no information about its content from HP ! ?

=> SO: reality or intox ? !

After further investigations (don't ask me from where) I have found the following clear information from HP:

TITLE: WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS - Microsoft Windows-Based
VERSION: F.17
PURPOSE: Routine
SoftPaq NUMBER: sp47691
SUPERSEDES: sp46954
EFFECTIVE DATE: March 05, 2010
CATEGORY: BIOS
SSM SUPPORTED: YES
PRODUCT TYPE(S): Notebooks
HARDWARE PRODUCT MODEL(S): HP Pavilion dv8 Notebook PC Series
=> FIXES: - Fixes an intermittent issue where the system displays the error “IHISI:flash read error in SMI!” while upgrading the BIOS from F.12 to F.15.
PREREQUISITES: None

=> SO HP confirms (internally) that its F.15 was bugged but still doesn't want to communicate about this hot very subject ! ! !

Who will have the courage for updating his/her Bios ? And for which result ? Suicide or not suicide ?

Cheers.
