The notebook (Product ID LW291UA#ABA) displayed a hard disk error, I ran a test which failed immediately and displayed the error code [psl5vq-5m163t-mfkr5g-60dc03] when testing drive 1. OS is windows 7 starter, but the OS does not consistently load. It has before, but usually moves to a SMART hard disk error screen and suggests a hard disk test.  Any more information on the specific error code is appreciated. Telling me whether or not I have to buy a new HDD is also appreciated. The computer is not mine, so I don't have much of an idea how the failure happened.

Hi,

The failure ID indicates that your Hard Drive has failed and you need to be replace the part and install operating system back on the unit to get it back to working condition.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

I can install a new hard drive. All I needed to know was whether I needed to replace the part. I don't have a windows 7 boot disc, but I'll be installing a different OS this time around. Thanks for the help.

i have a similar problem, when I ran the Hard disk check, it displayed:

Testing Drive 1

SMART CHECK: Passed

Short DST: FAILED

FAILURE ID: M4GBJM-5K965R-MFGH4J-60X203

PRODUCT ID: LV860UA#ABA

HARD DISK 1

HARD DISK TEST: FAILED

I just want to know if I need to get the hard disk replaced, the warranty expired a month ago..

that is the message I got as well when I ran the test, please let me know how to change out the Hard DIsk my warranty is expired. thanks!
