how far can i extend my ram ?

so how far can i extend my ram ?
i have a dv6 with 3 gb preinstalled ddr3 and i wanna use a x64 os S:

That problem is that there are hundreds of different dv6 models. The maximum even for x64 os in a notebook will be perhaps 8GB. That is not even guaranteed since most notebooks don't accept 4GB memory modules. Post the information that I request below and I can give you a solid answer. It is all about the chipset and model name. ![]()
It would help in a big way if you would look at the bottom of your notebook . There is a barcoded tag. Post everything on the tag except the serial number.

Now you see what happens when you don't give information quickly enough when requested ![]()
More than 4GB is only useful with 64-bit operating systems. Windows 32-bit versions can only access @3.25 GB of RAM. That is by operating system design.

ddr2 ?
i have currently with factory state ddr3 !
should i use ddr3 instead ?
