That problem is that there are hundreds of different dv6 models. The maximum even for x64 os in a notebook will be perhaps 8GB. That is not even guaranteed since most notebooks don't accept 4GB memory modules. Post the information that I request below and I can give you a solid answer. It is all about the chipset and model name. 
It would help in a big way if you would look at the bottom of your notebook . There is a barcoded tag. Post everything on the tag except the serial number.
