hp g72-b15sa notebook attempts to start up then stops immediately just as the fan starts.

Laptop fails to initiate the BIOS boot up. The white power LED on the on/off button lights up briefly when pressed and the fan begins to spin but the laptop immediately powers off within a second or two. I have performed hard resets and tried removing, one and both RAM modules. I have checked the power supply and battery. The screen briefly discplays the "Press F2 for set up" message but goes blank as soon as machine powers off.

Hey Paul,

Is the system giving you any LED light patterns? Take a look at this page and see if you can isolate the issue via blinking light codes: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01443366

The WiFi LED (orange) lights up. The NumLock (white) LED stays lit for the duration of the time the fan spinning (one or two seconds only) and then all go off. No LEDs blink at all.

Re: hp g72-b15sa notebook attempts to start up then stops immediately just as the fan starts.

It's possible that there is some sort of power failure going on, since you aren't seeing an error code. Try disconnecting everything from the system (USB, power adapter, etc) but leave the battery installed. Then turn it on and see if anything different happens.

If you still see the same result, remove the battery, and plug in the power adapter, and try turning it on again (this way you will be getting power from ONLY the adapter -- in case of a battery issue). If you're seeing the exact same result, then you should call HP support (800-474-6836) and set up a repair.

Either way, let us know what you find.

Re: hp g72-b15sa notebook attempts to start up then stops immediately just as the fan starts.

Thanks. Tried all of those previously but have tried them again. Nothing plugged in USB or CD drive or any port or socket. Tried on Mains (wuthout battery) and battery (without mains) and Mains with battery - same symptoms occur all ways. I'll phone to book a repair

Thank you
