hp pavilion remote control for DV7

I just bought a HP pavilion remote control for my pavilion DV7 laptop. I put the battery in correctly and pushed the power button, but nothing happened. So I think maybe I need a driver for it, but can't find one for a dv7, I did find one for the dv4 series and the remote said it was for dv4 and dv7 series, so is that the driver I need? If not does anyone know where I can get the correct driver or does anyone have a suggestion as to what to do? Thanks
