Hi:

It is very difficult to change all the places the previous owner's name appears.

You may be better off soing a system recovery to factory settings if the recovery partition is still active, or getting a set of recovery disks and installing Vista fresh and clean and you can personalize it to your liking.

Cal HP at 800-474-6836 or 888-999-4747.

You will need to provide the model number and serial number.

If HP doesn't have them anymore, this third party vendor does.

You can also read this link if you want to try changing some of the previous owner's info.  But be careful playing around in the registry...

I hate to bother you with this but after i typed in the information regedit.exe I was snooping around so much i didn't keep track of where it was originally highlighted. so now I am lost on that screen. u wouldn't happen to be able to save me the time and re direct me could u? if not i guess IM doomed. but Thank-You for your help earlier it sure was helpful.

Hi:

If you don't feel comfortable in the registry, I would not try to make any changes. One wrong move and your notebook won't boot up.

But anyway, what I would do is open the editor. On the menus on top click on Edit>Find.  Then in the search box, type in RegisteredOwner and hit the Find Next button. A search will commence and shortly it will end up on a the RegisteredOwner line and you can edit that value to your name.

To make sure you are on the right value you can look to the left of the file tree, and you will see the full value when you scroll up the tree on the left.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

That's the best I can do for you.

Again, if you don't feel comfortable in the registry, exit out and forget it.

If it were me, I would do a fresh install of the operating system if I was able to.

Hi:

I do not know why you are getting the driver manager stopped working message.

I would just forget trying to change any owner's name settings.

Restart the PC.

If you continue to get that error, try the system restore utility and select a restore point to a time before you were in the registry.

If you are unfamiliar with how to use the system restore utility, then below is a link to how to use it.

Re: i am the new owner of hp dv2415nr and i need to make it mine. how do i do this?

Hi:

My advise is to see if you can restore the PC to its "out of the box" condition by launching the system recovery too.

You can do that by restarting the PC and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the F11 key.

That should launch the recovery program. That program will retore the PC's operating system and programs as if you had bought it brand new.  Then you can personalize it any way you want.

The only thing to note is that any programs and files that were installed beyond those that originally came with the PC will be erased and no longer accessible.

If the recovery program doesn't work, the only other thing to do is to get a set of recovery disks as I posted above. Those will do the same thing.

Below is the link to the product specs for your notebook. You can see what programs it came with. Those should be included if you do a system recovery.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01060996&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...

As far as bluetooth, you would have to disassemble a large portion of the notebook to install one. That is not a task that should be undertaken by someone with no experience tearing down notebooks.

The manual states the bluetooth module comes with the connection cable, but when you enter the part number in the HP parts store, it specifically states it does not come with a connection cable. Without the connection cable that goes from the bluetooth module to the motherboard, the bluetooth module is useless.

My other suggestion would be to get a tiny USB bluetooth module that you plug into a USB port on your notebook when you need to use Bluetooth.  They are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

Below is a link to several of these type adapters you can look at if you are interested.
