i bought an hp dv6 yesterday have a white touchpad lock button on the lap but it doesnt work

Its a brand new laptop running on windows premium.750 gb hdd.6gb ram.2.5ghz.

in the shop,i have tried various dv6's and all of thier touchpad lock buttons work perfectly.but when i tap this ones button nothing happens.it has a small white sqaure on the top left corner.i have already tried pressing either sides for 5 seconds.but nothing happens.so please help me.thanks in advance

Hi,

Try the following.

First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55107.exe

Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.

When this has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

I only have synaptics touchpad driver in program and features.and when i click it they say if i uninstall my touchpad wont work untill reboot.i dont know how to reboot.should i risk it.also...do you know how to work youcam?when i click the icon there is just a blue loading circle and its over

Your TouchPad will still work after uninstalling this software ( despite the warning ) - when this has completed, restart the notebook and follow the rest of the details in my previous post.

Have you ever tried this before? I did what you told and now my vertical and horizontal scrolling features are not working....nor is the  lockpad lock button...any idea how to fix this up?

As this was a clean installation, you need to set up the particular configuration options you require for the touchpad again - see the document on the link below.
