Re: i think it is a hardware failure

This sounds like either a bad motherboard or bad memory.

Check the website for your the enhancement warranty issues, there is some symptoms that are related to the mother board, its a known fact that HP has some products with faulty mother boards and 1,000's of customers are having the same issues you are with the same symptoms, I just don't think it's a error msg or code, it's a faulty mother board that is breaking down after certain amount of use, I bought mine brand new and I had the mother board fixed about 3 months later, and in feb of 09' best buy replaced the mother board again and now in JUNE of 09' my mother board is out again for the same issues and symptoms that are listed on the website, so if you do have the issues then get yourself a case manager and dispute the repair, it's a known issue and the agent you speak with will admit to the mother board if you are under the list, and I know there is some customers that are not under the list but have the same issues, this is a nightmare and a GREAT MICHEAL MOORE story.

Re: i think it is a hardware failure

Gangles might be right, but I would check the symptoms and also make sure your not under the list that HP provided to their customer by mule or smoke signal delivery. All of customers are having the issue you are, there is to many for me to know for sure, but I know it's a positive for my laptop.

Re: i think it is a hardware failure

I believe the V2000 series does not have a service enhancement applied to it.

This seems like just normal use failier

Cool, thanks for the info Gangle, it's just important that the customers should have more than one source of information.

Re: i think it is a hardware failure

first off, thanks to each one of you that replied to my issue.  i guess this would be normal wear and tear after so many years of use for this system.  like one you poster said hp is least favorite of my cpu manufacturers, i have had other issues with hp laptops where the video card went out after 1 year of use, another where system was just very unstable.  hp needs to address these issues in order to keep consumers interested in their products.  i prefer dell over any other manufacturer because their systems are so part upgrade friendly and dependable(not bashing hp).  well thanks for all your help and i guess the hp is going for recycling. can someone change this to solution given and close this post.
