Hi I also get this error message  I have changed the Internal Battery and still get this message.....I am guessing I need to change the External battery as I cant use my Laptop unless its plugged into mains power....everytime I unplug it froom mains power it dies straight away.....or could this be the internal battery also causing this?

I get the internal battery (601) error message when I log in after I try to play a game on my laptop and it shutsdown.

I have an HP Pavillion dv7, Vista  64 bit laptop.

I am not computer savvy so I am not sure where to find the info I need to replace my internal battery. I have a Compaq Presario CQ56 it is out of warranty but I have started to get the error message. Could this be causing my keyboard problems too? Thank you for your help. Now just need to know where I can buy the battery.

The CQ56 uses a HP MU06 (WD548AA#ABB) battery, you can buy from HP or look for one on Amazon by searching Amazon using MU06

Beware of really inexpensive non HP branded batteries.

i am using an hp 4520s (XT989UT#ABA). I is showing me error 601 as it start up. the clock and other bios settings are not reseting. when i click continue,it is bringing another error (1720-Smart Hard Drive imminent Failure) if i continue by pressing f1,it is loading withndows fine and i am able to do anything. what are these errors telling me and what is the solution?

Is the laptop under Warranty?

601, main battery problem, most oif the time it needs calibrating or replacing

1720, the hard drive is failing or has failed, replace the hard drive with a new one and use the HP recovery discs to re-install Windows. Once Windows is re-installed and working connect the old hard drive to the PC using a usb to hard drive adapter, browse the old drive and see if you can copy any important files to the new hard drive.
