Re: laptop not booting up.

Hi, if your CAPS and SCROLL lock are blinking, it means that the computer is telling you the main problem. Now what you have to do is count how many times it blinks between pauses. (For example: blink, blink, blink, pause, blink, blink, blink = 3 flashes or 3 blinks) This is a code and the computer is trying to give you a specific area in which to troubleshoot the problem. The meaning of these codes are known by the phone tech support only, so if you're still in warranty, give HP a call.

The article below is from the troubleshooting steps of no boot issue for your specific laptop model.

SymptomPossible Cause

When you press the power button: some of the LED lights on the keyboard blink or a beep tone is made to help identify specific hardware component errors,
Blinking LEDS on startup usually indicates a problem with the basic functionality of a critical component, and you will need technical assistance to resolve the error.

The most commonly used LEDs are those located are near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys.

The number of blinks in a series is used by a technician to help diagnose a problem with specific hardware components.

The number of blinks and their meaning is different for different notebook models.

Re: laptop not booting up.

Actually that worked !! Starting the laptop, the screen remains blabk and the scroll and caps lock key do blink in series of 4 blinks before a pause. So that means the graphics controller is not functional. Any idea where I go from here?

Re: laptop not booting up.

That sounds like a hardware issue, you can follow this link to interpret blank screen LED error codes to try and nail it down.
