my computer is showing smart error 301 It saya the hard drive is about to crashcan you help me

Hardisk failue imminent Error 301

Notebook has just been purchased.  Problem seemed to occured after Windows Service Pack 1 and about the time Samsung printer was installed

First of all, the first thing to do is to make sure you back-up all your personal files etc as soon as possible.

Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Part of this process will require a restart to check the drive - the process can take easily Two hours or more to complete.

When this has completed, shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  If it still gives a 301 error, as your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced.
