She got an error that says the system fan does not work correctly. What can be done to fix it?

If the laptop is still under warranty, send it in to HP for them to fix. Getting in to the fan on your laptop can be difficult as it requires essentially taking the motherboard out of the computer. You may be able to use some canned air to blow the fan out, dust and lint can build up in it over time and keep it from working properly. Does the fan come on at all when the computer is running? If it doesn't spin up at all, you are probably going to need to replace it.

You can try and install the BIOS Update for your notebook. The notebook fan is controlled by the BIOS.
