i have a presario c700 running windows vista that has been working fine until last night when the laptop ran down on charge and turned off. After rebooting i found i had no networks to connect to but all wireless lights were on and blue in colour. It says that the device is working properly but when i try to connect it says no networks are detected. i have tried diagnosing the problem through windows but it just says windows cannot repair.

Hi:
Please run the system restore utility and select a restore point closest to the time before your notebook shut off.
If you are not familiar with this utility, please read about it at the link below.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/S
Perhaps that will restore the configuration settings which may have gotten glitched up when the notebook shut down on you.

OK, so the easy stuff didn't work...
You might want to try the proper repairs for Vista.
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.
Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.
In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
Reboot the machine.
If that doesn't work, shut down the PC. Then shut down and reboot your cable modem and router.
If they are not an integrated unit, start the cable modem first, wait 2 minutes, then start the router, wait 2 minutes, then start the PC and see if you can connect then.
If not, as a last resort, you may want to consider reinstalling the operating system, after backing up any files you want to keep.

Sorry none of those things work.
I don't see where you have any recourse but to reinstall the operating system.
If that doesn't work, then probably some major hardware issue has occurred.
