red/orange mute button doesn't change

I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1464dx  and when I tap the mute button above the keyboard and to the left of the volume bar, it changes the icon on the menu on the screen but doesn't change colors. At the same time I now find my built in speakers don't work anymore like they are always muted, but the odd thing is that everything works for my headphone jack. I can mute/unmute and control the volume just fine for my headphone jack, and my wireless on/off button also works just fine. If I could get information on how to fix this it would be great, I know that I can just always use external speakers but that's sometimes a pain and I would like the ability to hear sounds when I don't have access to external speakers. Thanks!!

i resolved the problem by reinstalling a couple audio drivers and one of them fixed mt problem
