about 4 months ago i got an hp dv6 quad edition series i7-2720qm @2.2ghz 8gb ram 64bit OS. but the best hard drive that they would let me upgrade to was a 640gb hdd @7200rpm. and it worked great for the first 2 months. now im looking forward to an ssd, but i would like to know if my computer is sata III or sata 6gb compatible before paying the extra money for a sataIII ssd

Hi,
Sandy Bridge laptops should support SATA III connection and wiki says that there are 2 SATA III ports. You can buy a SATA III ssd, they are even cheaper (the same capacity) than SATA II drives at least in the UK..
