touch pad disintegrating?

Ive got a pavilion g6 and my touch pad  looks like it is slowly disintigrating. ive had it for less then a year and this started happening about six months ago. feels almost oily to the touch and like layers of the touchpad have melted away. i will attach a pic to show you what i mean. i was in afghanistan for most of the time i have had this but i doubt the dirty hands a i had sometimes would have done this in the short amount of time. any help with this would be appreciated

Re: touch pad disintegrating?

I am unable to see the image. Have you cleaned the touchpad with any cleaner since you've had it?

Re: touch pad disintegrating?

Alright, a picture would really help us out!

If it's physically separating, then the only real solution would be to have the touchpad replaced. You'll have to call HP @ 1-800-474-6836 for warranty support to see if you could have it replaced and what your options are.

If you're out of warranty, then you could always order the part and replace it. It's not too difficult since the touchpad is right under the top cover.

Re: touch pad disintegrating?

I'm still not seeing it.

If you want, you could upload it to an image host like Imgur [ http://www.imgur.com ] and then post the link here.

Yeah, I see that now.  Does it work without any problems?  It looks like it should work even with cosmetic faults like this.  Like I said, you could clean it if you think it would help...otherwise it would just need to be replaced (the touchpad/top cover).

Re: touch pad disintegrating?

ya it still works but as you can see it looks like something is eating away at it. with it brand new it looks like one solid piece but now its almost like something has thinned out the layers of the touchpad. anyway like i said it still works for now, just gives you a really irritating, almost corosive feeling on your fingertips if you use it for more than half an hour or so.
