I have a pavillion 9009nr notebook that I would like to upgrade to windows 7. HP specifications on this machine say 2 gig ram maximum. I would like to know if I upgrade to windows 7 64 bit if I can install more ram. I also need to know if replacement ram modules from vendors like crucial or kingston will work. Machine is currently on win xp.

Hi:
The specs are correct. Max memory is 2 GB.
You can confirm this by running the free crucial memory scanner.

I would not install a 64 bit OS on a PC with only 2 GB of memory. A 64 bit OS needs more memory to run than a 32 bit OS does. Not double, but more.
That is why the W7 specs for a 64 bit operating system call for a minimum of 2 GB of memory.
Unless you have 64 ibt programs to run, you would probably be degrading your computer's performance instead of improving it.

Thanks Paul for the responce. Just hoping to get a little more life out of an aging machine. The quality of my computer seems much better than some of the new notebooks I have looked at lately.
