I need to replace the motherboard on my zd7000 due to failure of the integrated nVidia Go5700 graphics chip (overheating issues). The original part is 365894-001 with NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5700 / 128MB.
- Any advice on replacing with a different board with different GPU, or should I stick with the original?
- What about a board with ATI graphics?
- If I get a DIFFERENT mobo, what issues will I run into regarding software?
- Alternatives I'm considering:
356669-001 - Go5600 Ultra / 128MB
365891-001 - Go5200 Ultra / 128MB
Product: Pavillion zd7000
s/n: CNF43412LQ
p/n: DN730AV
Any advice will be apprectiated!

Hi,
- Any advice on replacing with a different board with different GPU, or should I stick with the original?
(If you stick with the original you will have an identical HAL. That means Plug in all your peripherals and hardware and everything, OS included, will work right from the first start attempt) and that is good.
- What about a board with ATI graphics? (downside here is differenr HAL as in new install required with OS install from DVD as in you must purchase an OS)
- If I get a DIFFERENT mobo, what issues will I run into regarding software? See #1 answer.
- Alternatives I'm considering:
356669-001 - Go5600 Ultra / 128MB
365891-001 - Go5200 Ultra / 128MB
HAL (Hardware Abstract Layer) this is essentially your OS keyed to your system board. It is all important. Install your old hadrdrive on a different system board and it may start up and it may not, but it will eventually bluescreen and become unuseably corrupt. That is guaranteed to happen.

Thanks for your advice. I'll try to find the original part, refurbished if possible. This computer has graphics on the system board, which means I'll likely face the same problem again (as have many others). I plan on using a laptop "cooler" under the computer to try to keep temperatures down this time.
