I have a HP EliteBook 8460p and the keyboard light will not go out.  I can press the cover to close it, but you can see the light still illuminated.  I can press the on/off button, but it is always on.  I'm assuming there is a sensor on the cover that must not be engaging, is there a way to disable the light entirely?

Hi Amce-gs,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP EliteBook 8460p and not having the backlit go out on your Notebook. Here is a link to change power plans.

To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem.  This is not a  backlit key model.  There is an LED mounted next to the camera in the lcd frame.  There is a button that is supposed to open the small "hatch" that allows the LED to turn on, much like a fridgerator light.  The mechanism that allows closure of this hatch will not turn off the light.

Has anyone had to take apart their lcd panel to disable this LED?

Is there a software mechanism to turn off the LED, I woiuld prefer not to take the machine apart.

Hi,

I have this model too with the same problem. A temporary fix for me is to hold the light shut, and move the laptop screen up and down once or twice. This will keep the light off in the current position (at least for me). The issue lies in a faulty connection to the sensor cable which loosens to the point of not detecting whether the light is on or off, so it just stays on, assuming you want a light. To fix this, i'd reccomend just putting a piece of tape over it. If you're feeling adventurous, you can loosen the two screws on the bottom sides of the monitor, take out the display, and re-connect the sensor to its socket.
