EliteBook 8770w
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Morning all,

Sorry if this is some really basic questions.

I have an EliteBook 8770w and want to install a second hard drive in the empty upgrade slot.

I need at least a 2TB drive and was after some advice on recommended hard drives which are compatible and is the installation as simple as slotting the new drive in?

Many thanks

Hi there.

Basically you would need a 2.5 inches HDD and after that you can follow the steps from the manual which banhien kindly provided. 🙂

As for a specific drive, since you're after a 2TB storage space, you can take a look at WD Green, which is designed for secondary storage usage. It's quiet and cool operational, energy efficient HDD and the main benefit is that it saves power and wear by spinning down when it can, this means it's basically best for things like video footage storage which are only in use periodically:

Hope this helps and cheers! 🙂

Thanks for your reply,

Just looking into the WD 2.5inch you linked but can you confirm that it's 15mm depth? The 8770w only takes a maximum of  12.7mm so it looks like it'll be too big.

Thanks

Yes, the 2.5'' WD Greens are 15 mm in height and since your bay is limited to 12.7mm it will not fit.

In this case you should take a look at 9.5 mm one, but keep in mind their capacity is limited to 1TB in most cases. For instance, here's a link with all 2.5'' WD drives:
