The Biometric Fingerprint device on my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop is not working.

I get the message:

1. The Fingerprint reader is not detected (during start up prior to logging in).

2.  Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer ( when I checked via Control Panel).

I went into this challenge when I reinstalled my windows 7 o/s after I realised I had some corrupted files and so could not install an HP printer on my computer.  Unfortunately I did not have the original restoration file so I had to do reformating and reinstallation of the o/s.

Please help.  My O/S is Windows 7 ultimate.

cecom,

You have an older model of the dv6 series.

This vintage computer is designed to run the Digital Persona version of the Security software.  HP sometimes refers to the DP software as HP SimplePass; the programs are actually two separate pieces of code.  The two programs are not associated with one another except that they do a similar job and both support the use of a fingerprint reader (with the appropriate Driver installed for that device).

Software Digital Persona Version 4.x to V5.x

Compatible with

Driver Validity Sensor Version 2.0x to 2.1x

You want to install the fingerprint device driver first from this page: Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver

Reboot the computer and log in.

Next, install the Digital Persona Program from this Page:  HP SimplePass by Digital Persona

Reboot the computer and log in.

Start > All Programs > search for Digital Persona (or SimplePass).  Click to open and get started.

I think there is a built-in help file, too.

There is one more bit:  Once you have the program working and set up, export your webcards (passwords and webpages).  The backup is (perhaps) under "backup and restore" in the lower left corner.

Good Luck!

This may help, although I am not sure about the content or whether it relates to your DP version:

What is the product number of your computer?

Here is help to find that information:

usman076124,

Your system is a Probook - that is, a business model.  It uses the HP ProtectTools suite of security software.  Business computers are used by both companies and individuals who have chosen to purchase such systems.  Business notebooks offer a number of nice features and are different in some respects to their cousins, the consumer notebooks of similar model types.

The best I can do is to provide you with the resources for you to try and resolve this issue on your own.

Your Driver page, on which you will find the security software:

The manual, circa 2012, in which you can find the basic on setting up and running the software:

A technical White Paper written in 2010 that may help decipher the workings of the software:
