Built-in Webcam cannot be detected? Need help.

Hello,

As we know there is a built-in webcam on the 2140 on top of the screen, lately i have found out it was not functioning, so i uninstall the software and driver and resintall both, however, HP Webcam is still not able to detect it, so the Skype and other software.  I downloaded the driver (SP41512) from HP.com, and it is reported 'No Camera Is Found'.

What can i do next?  Pls help.  Thank you.

BS

Re: Built-in Webcam cannot be detected? Need help.

Hi,

Post the Operating system version, model name and product number of your HP product here in your thread. For newer laptops and PCs..... in Windows just hold the CTRL+ ALT+S keys to invoke the information.

Re: Built-in Webcam cannot be detected? Need help.

Thank you, Erico.

My netbook is HP Mini 2140, running on Windows XP Home version.

The Webcam was running fine since I bought it.  However I did not use it for the past few months until recently when I need to use it with Skype.

I do not install many applications in my netbook, except the Office, Skype and Antivirus, Anitspyware and Firewall, these are common applications and I guess they won't interfere with the webcam operation.  Others are the original applications come with the netbook.

Thanks again.

Rgds,

BS/Singapore.

Hi,

Take a look at the solution for a built in web cam problem in this thread. It could be the solution that you seek.

Re: Built-in Webcam cannot be detected? Need help.

Thanks again.

I did search thru the Forum but no true solution to my problem.

It is a built-in camera, applications as well as HPWebcam cannot detect its present, as if it is not there with my HP Mini.

I check my Device Manager, under Imaging Devices, it shows USB Video Devices, and in property it shows "this device is working properly".

And tried to Roll Back Driver, system told me there was no old driver for it to roll back.

Anybody out there having the same kind of problem?

BS.

Hi,

Remember that I asked you to do the ALT+CTRL+S ?

Well please do it again and this time post all except the serial number.

Just the model name of your mini isn't enough. That is because there are so many models provided to different world markets by HP. You location is in Asia so the model is different.

It is so difficult to help when not enough information is given. I could be wrong, but I don't believe that is asking too much.

What is needed is to find ut the manufacturer of the builtin webcam. Once we have that, then a search for an appropriate driver can begin.

Here is a link to a video that I made which you can use as an example of  where to find that information from within your operating system. I placed the cursor on manufacturer and vendor id fields in the Details drop down that is located in the Properties box for each device in your HP netbook. The operating system I was using is Vista, so the language may be different but everything still will appear the same. Help us help you. :smileyhappy:

Re: Built-in Webcam cannot be detected? Need help.

Hi Erico,

I did ALT+CRTL+S but it just did not show off the info as you mentioned.  Anyway,  I got this from other application, hope this can help:

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Name PC2217315xxxx
System Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
System Model HP 2140
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 28 Stepping 2 GenuineIntel ~1595 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard 68DGU Ver. F.01, 2009-02-18
SMBIOS Version 2.4
Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS
System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32
Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1
Locale United States
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111)"
User Name PC2217315xxxx\xxxxxxx
Time Zone Malay Peninsula Standard Time
Total Physical Memory 2,048.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 1.13 GB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB
Page File Space 5.83 GB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys

In Device Manager, it shows IMAGING DEVICES -> USB VIDEO DEVICES, "this device is working properly, (enable)" -- it looks perfectly OK to me but HP WEBCAM just simply can't detect its presence.

I happened to read HELP from HP WEBCAM document, it says USB COMPOSITE DEVICE must be in IMAGING DEVICES, but how to do it?

THank you so much for being so helpful...

Best regards,

BS.
