!!! I have exactly the same prob on a self built PC with the ASUS P5N-D (based on nvidia 750i) motherboard.
That is, 1:03 into the first song.
however i have updated the drivers as you said but it still doesnt work.
i love my vista 64 but i think it may be the culprit!

It sure sounds like you have a driver issue as well since it is exactly the same symptoms that I had. I'm assuming your CD/DVD drive is SATA also? You said you updated the drivers, what is the version/date of the driver for the Serial ATA Controller in Device Manager? It should be at least a 2008 version. Mine was 2007 and that version did not work.
Also, google "upper and lower filters". Many people have fixed CD issues by removing the those entries in the registry though that wasn't my problem.

Hi, my CD are SATA and the driver is fully up to date (version:10.3.0.42 date:18/08/2008)
also what version of vista, 32 or 64 is yours (assuming it is vista) as the drivers may fix the issue only for 32.
what is your mobo exactly?
since my last post i also tryed BIOS flashing but it didnt work
i will look at the registry entries and update as necassary.
