Cannot disable the touchpad on dm4 series notebook

I think you have to tap on the upper left-hand corner and a small light comes on to disable but it doesn't turn on. Anybody know a workaround. I keep hitting the touchpad when I'm typing and I'd like to turn it on and off at will

Hi,

Try the following.

First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50819.exe

Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.

When this has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

Check if double-tapping the top left corner of the pad will now Enable/Disable correctly.

Regards,

Re: Cannot disable the touchpad on dm4 series notebook

Thanks...did the download etc. but still not working. Am I doing it right. Just a quick two taps on upper left corner where the light is? Funny because am sure it worked when I bought the computer.

Re: Cannot disable the touchpad on dm4 series notebook

Hi,

That's the correct method.

It may be worth checking that this is enabled in your ClickPad settings as follows.

Open windows Control Panel, open Mouse, select the ClickPad settings tab and click the 'ClickPad Settings' button.  The option you are looking for ( the exact location varies with the ClickPad version ) is shown in the image below.
