HP 6735b, WindowsXP boots but no response from LCD, keyboard or mouse

[ Edited ]

Dear All

I have an HP 6735b that has been in service for just over 3 years.

It will boot to the desktop just fine if you use an external LCD and keyboard.

There is no response at all from the onboard KVM.

Even once the system gets to the desktop (on the external LCD)

there is no response from the onboard KVM.

I dont seem to be able to access the BIOS using the external USB keyboard.

There are no beeps or blinks from the LED panel on boot.

Suggestions?

R

note 1, got into diags with F2 and start up test failed, though MEM, SMART and SDST all passed.

note 2, HDD diags, SDST failed

Re: HP 6735b, WindowsXP boots but no response from LCD, keyboard or mouse

Hello rballou,

Your computer will not boot.

Do a hard reset.
Power off the computer.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.

After the test run, post the failure code that you get and we’ll be able to tell you the next steps you need to take.
