HP DV7-7240us fingerprint reader problem

Windows 8.1 recognizes the fingerprint reader but if I try signing in it says an error occurred preventing the use of your fingerprint credentials. I have all the latest updates for the BIOS, the fingerprint driver, and HP simplepass. HP simplepass closes after I scan my fingerprint. What do I do????

Re: HP DV7-7240us fingerprint reader problem

I actually solved it by uninstalling both the driver and the software and restarting the computer. Then, I reinstalled the driver and it worked!

Re: HP DV7-7240us fingerprint reader problem

Hi zeek121, welcome to the HP Forums. I have included the general purpose troubleshooting on the topic here:  Troubleshooting a Fingerprint Reader (Windows 8).

If that doesn't help, you can try to restore the original SImplepass software using this method: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8).

I hope this helps.

I am glad to hear it zeek121. I think you gave your post the 'Accept As Solution'. In the future try to give the post that had the steps to resolve your issue the 'Accept As Solution' so that others in the community can find it easily.

Have a great day.

Re: HP DV7-7240us fingerprint reader problem

I have been getting this error ever since the day I installed Windows 8.1, over a year ago. I have tried uninstalling HP Simple Pass, and also the Validity Sensors, shutting down the machine, restarting it, reinstalling both the validity sensors AND HP Simple Pass, opening up HP Simple Pass and TRYING TO input my fingerprint, although it says that the fingerprint is already there before I ever scan mine into the system, and the last few times, it doesn't ever prompt me to even swipe my finger. It feels like it will never work, as I have tried everything under the sun and still, I get errors. The error I am getting now is "An error occurred preventing the use of your fingerprint credentials." When I try to scan my finger after uninstalling the 2 software programs mentioned before, I get an error that syas that my fingerprint was not found in the database.

Bottom line is, ever since Windows 8.1, I have had to type in my password. Can anyone help me with tis specific problem?

Please, posting the same troubleshooting lists that I have seen on related forums is simply of no use. I have tried all those things, all multiple times on many occasions, and none of them have worked.

Jeremy
