One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j013cl laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything. It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken and the pieces of plastic are loose inside the laptop. When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge. I purchased the factory refurbished laptop in January of this year. How can the laptop be repaired? One source told me that they would have to replace the entire cover ... IF they could find one.  Is this repair covered under warranty?

I just found a topic for the same issue with the dv7 "dv7 Left hinge pulling case apart? What the heck!".  It appears that HP have some real widespread problems with the left hinge of their laptop casings!

I have the same problem with my laptop too. I kept hearing things moving around in my laptop and the left hinge being wiggly. I opened up the laptop to find all 3 plactic screw fitting for the left hinge in tiny peices. My 1 year warrently has past and I don't know what to do.

Well, ended up speaking to support team and they won't fix it. I have had the laptop for 1 year and 1 month and it is out of warranty. EVEN THOUGH it is clearly a product manufacturing/design issue, they want me to pay over $100 to have the defect fixed.

Very unhappy, will not by an HP next year. I use my laptop for freelance development and buy a new one every 2 years, last 2 were HP's along with my printers. This has changed my mind. I think I will give Lenovo a try...

I have exact same problem. I have HP Envy 17' TouchSmart, bought it less than a year. I like it very much but it breaks my heart to see it fall apart like that. Please HELP!

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with my ENVY TouchSmart 17-j103ea, case broken open by the rear left hinge. Laptop less than a year old (Feb). Hoping for some inspiration here!
