Hello,

I have 240mbs internet at home, conencted to a 450mb dual band wifi router. The fastest i can get sat next to the router via wifi is 30mbps. My friend with a cheaper laptop has dual band reciever why in this only n? And why poor performance?

Re: HP PAvilion G6 - WIfi Card

Need your full model number to figure out if you have an upgrade option that includes a wi-fi card that can operate in the 5 ghz band. HP makes it very hard to upgrade the wireless card and some of the less expensive models use "second tier" wireless cards with which I have never been impressed. Do you happen to know what kind of wi-fi card you have in the laptop? I will say that it is quite easy to determine what kind of wireless card is in a laptop before you buy it and people tend not to pay much attention to it.

Re: HP PAvilion G6 - WIfi Card

Broadcom is one of the good ones, actually. I would start to look for maybe an updated driver. I do occasionally have issues with 2.4 ghz (N-150) cards on 5 ghz (N-300) networks and have not tried them on the new draft 802.11ac routers.

Re: HP PAvilion G6 - WIfi Card

It is not; it is single band 2.4 ghz only. I need the full model number of your laptop to check and see if a dual band card was offered. It is very easy to upgrade assuming you can get the exact right card. HP makes it impossible to use anything but certain specific HP logoed cards.
