HP Pavilion 17-e019dx - could I install 12 Gb memory (4+8) ?

[ Edited ]

According to the product description,  HP Pavilion 17-e019dx might have up to 8Gb memory installed (alltogether, using 2 slots)

However, according to the maintenance manual, it has

Support for DDR3L (1600 MHz) dual channel

Support for DDR3L-1600 MHz single channel (for use on computer models equipped with an AMD A6-5200, A4-500,
or E1-2500 processor)

Support for up to 12288 MB of system RAM in the following configurations:
12288 MB (8192 MB x 1+ 4096 MB x 1), not supported for use on computer models equipped with a 32 bit OS

I have windows 8.1 x64; will this laptop be able to accept second memory chip (8gb)?

Thank you!

Re: HP Pavilion 17-e019dx - could I install 12 Gb memory (4+8) ?

Hi,

The specs says max 8Gb:

   http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03996822&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...

and second opinion:

   http://www.crucial.com/eu/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Pavilion+17+Series/Pavilion+17-e019dx-upgrades....

The manual is for many products for same series.

Regards.

Could the spec be inaccurate?

I guess, I am catching at straws, but there is an ebay listing selling this model and stating "Box was opened once by our IT only to upgrade memory from 4GB to 12GB"

Hi,

Well, the book is the book, in this case two "books". If you wish to venture, go ahead at your own risk. All I can say: config as 8 + 4, not 4 +8 that means slot 0 (primary) contains 8Gb and slot 1 (secondary) contains 4Gb. If you bought 8Gb stick, just replace 4Gb stick from slot 0.

Good luck.
