HP pavilion dm4 laptop does not boot to OS

I have: pavilion dm4 2033cl

I turn it on and observe this:

Step 1: Message "Press The ESC Key for Startup Menu" is printed at the very bottom left of an otherwisely blank (black) screen. Then the computer power-cycles -- the screen goes blacker (LCD goes off) for a good second. And then the cycle repeats from step 1 indefinitely.

When I press ESC, I am presented with the following screen:

Startup Menu

F1 System Information
F2 System Diagnostics
F9 Boot Device Options
F10 BIOS Setup
F11 Sytem Recovery

ENTER - Continue Startup

For more information, please visit:\go\techcenter\startup

Running F2 - Start-Up Tests reports:
Memory Test: Passed

Optimized DST:  PASSED

Battery Test:  Primary - PASSED (0)

PCI Device Check:  PASSED

Nevertheless, the laptop keeps on cycling like in Step 1.

What do you think can be the issue?  What are some next steps I can try?  Have you seen this before?

Re: HP pavilion dm4 laptop does not boot to OS

Turns out I can boot from a DVD.

But ... I cannot access RECOVERY or HP_TOOLS or any other partitions apparently. ..

What can I do?

--- Hang on a second..

I've inserted my own Windows 7 64 Bit disk and chose UPGRADE option, which told me "Remove DVD, and boot into OS first to use UPGRADE option".

I did, and lo and behold everything started splendidly.

I guess Windows 7 64 Boot Disk experience graciously rewrote the MBR, or whatever was causing the machine to cycle endlessly.
