Hinges holding screen to keyboard on Pavilion dv5 just broke

[ Edited ]

Hi

The subject basically says it all.  The hinges that hold the screen to the motherboard/keyboard on my Pavilion dv5 just broke one day when I was closing the lid.

Have been trying to get help from HP Support via Twitter but they are a total loss (in direct contrast to their logo which erroneously says Total Care!!!)

Anyway, its been a month that I am trying to get some attention to this obvious manufacturing defect ( I think) and HP has just gone quiet. Not one response. to several emails to help@hp.com with Code 24284 given by HPSupport via Twitter.

Any suggestions? am getting really upset with HP

Thanks

Re: Hinges holding screen to keyboard on Pavilion dv5 just broke

These should work.

It's quite possible that the mounts in the plastic base have broken and/or the brass screw inserts have come out and the hinges are fine. There is also an adjusting nut on the hinges so the new ones don't break, I believe the nut is 5.5 mm.

Look on page 80 of the repair manual for the part number and removal procedure. I put the part number in the e-bay search box.

Unfortunately we cannot force HP to help, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I am a user just like you so there is not much I can do either.

Is it under warranty?

Send a polite email to the CEO Team, no quarantee they will help but you have nothing to lose at this point.

Re: Hinges holding screen to keyboard on Pavilion dv5 just broke

Quite true.  But being a veteran of the IT manufacturing industry with a focus on customer support, I am actually appalled by the lack of response.  None of the companies I have engaged with have ever shown such a total lack of understanding of how to service and interact with customers, existing and potential.

I believe the warranty expired a few months ago.  But, in 20 years of laptop use this is the first time that this sort of defect has surfaced.

Thank you for the advice, I had sent that email earlier today.  Will update if its any good.
