Odds are Ubuntu has loaded drivers for the webcam and the Bluetooth you just need software to make them work.

For the webcam use Cheese, which is like youcam; a very simple webcam interface. At the command prompt (ctrl-alt-t) type:

sudo apt-get install cheese

For the bluetooth, do you have an icon in the toolbar with a bluetooth symbol?

If you are not technically minded, pardon the advice, but you really should not be trying to use Linux.

**i do have the bluetooth symbol  y

**for the the OS. I didnt have a choice. It was a gift and if I change the OS warranty will be waived so I have to either learn (baby steps) or just deal with a plain internet only-no app laptop 🙂

Ubuntu is far from no-app. In fact try this from the command line as you did with cheese:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

You need to do this with an internet connection active. You will get all kinds of multimedia add-ons and other goodies. You should have Libre Office installed by default. For anything you can do in Windows you can get a free app in Linux. Edit photos? use the Gimp and so on.

For bluetooth try the instructions here:

Post back if you need help. I am a long-time Ubuntu and other Linux user and can certainly help or point you in the right direction

REPLY TO: Huffer/PROVOST~~Good Afternoon Huffer: FINALLY, someone with an HP who uses Linux!!! I realize I'm replying to a post that is rather old, but I'm hoping you can help just the same. I have an HP2000-210~HP VGA built-in webcam; O.S. -LinuxMint17 cinnamon 64bit, and am having problems concerning 'media" applications. #1. The built-in cam will not operate correctly. I've tried Cheese/Guvcview and VLC and the cam opens to a black screen which reads "No Device Found" (except VLC which reads "unable to open MRL 'v4l2://' Check the log for details). Have installed Ubuntu Restricted extras! This laptop used Cheese when I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed, but after "upgrading" to LM17, I've tried a multitude of "commands", none of which get the camera to work for more than 5-20 seconds. Have posted in many forums with no viable results/"fixes"! #2. SoundJuicer works for well for about 3-4 "rips", then starts getting "buggy" and crashes. I can uninstall/re-install and get the same results. Again, SJ worked fine w/12.04. This is definitely a problem within the O.S. and/or it's supporting apps. I'm running out of places to ask for/get help. I would appreciate any advice you may be able to offer!!!!!!!! Thank You: RICK
