Now we are getting somewhere!  Here are your specs:

You have 3 gigs of RAM and a Celeron 900 CPU. It is no wonder you want to upgrade. Here are the processors you can use:

Intel Mobile Celeron 925 processor (2.3 GHz, 1-MB L3 cache, 800 MHz) 636636-001
Intel Celeron 900 processor (2.2 GHz) 534419-001
Intel Pentium T4500 processor (2.3 GHz) 591880-001
Intel Celeron T3500 processor (2.1 GHz) 625830-001

While all of these are 64 bit processors (will allow 4 gigs of RAM and up if you have 64 bit Windows), the Celeron 900 is a single core and is just not very capable. The T4500 is your best bet and it is at least a dual core, but is not any great processor either.

Your laptop was made to be made cheap and has a motherboard with the GL40 chipset and will only run the lower end CPUs, not a Core 2 Duo. Max memory is actually 8 gigs but it uses DDR2-800 SO-DIMM and 8 gigs of that is going to cost nearly the value of a new low-end laptop. It is very rare and expensive. Single 4 gig modules go for $110-120 and you would need 2. Even a single 2 gig module which you need to go up to 4 gigs, would cost you $45 or so.

You have the Intel 4500 video which is about as lame as it gets and there is no way to upgrade that. Sorry, but you are just never going to make that laptop into a gamer.

We would need the full model number which will tell us what you have now so we can recommend where you can go (up, we hope).

Model number : 01196-112-218-466

That is not a model number. It will be G56-aaaaxx where a is numbers and x is letters.

HP Recommended

where can the model number be found?

HP Recommended

On a sticker on the bottom of the laptop or inside the battery bay.

Review ths site linked above. You can also find the "Product Number" by hitting the fn + esc key as you boot up.
