My Ls18 powercord started to short circuit and sent sparks which left small burn marks on my carpet... Thankfully I was home to disconnect, observe and prevent  further disaster (fire...). I shutdown my compuer and I suspect that my laptop battery has since drained. I'm not able to power it up  and I'm assuming/hoping that no damage has come from the short!

In any case, after inspecting the cable it seems to have frayed at the point that the plug and cord meet... Not sure how that happens! Perhaps its caused as a result of the cables consistant bend upto the desk and laptop.

Should not be a issue for a user to be concerned about (cables are supposed to bend and have movement).

I checked into cable replacement and found the recall on LS-15 power cable... Perhaps HP needs to expand the powercable recall!  Is this issue currently being investigated?

@tb808 ,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Mine also shorted out, throwing sparks and started melting my plug in hole.

My LS-18 power cord shorted out. just a few minutes ago. I smelled smoldering and heard sparking and upon handling the cord, it burned my hand.

The cord is marked Longwell E55349 LS-18

The sticker on the cord says it was made in 2013 and has a serial number of 213349-009
