Mass storage controller problem device

Laptop dv8305ca

OS: XP SP3

My system has slowed down to a crawl, sound is distorted and the screen flickers.  System Info says Mass Storage Controller is a probelm device.  The PNP Device ID is PCI\VEN_104&CDEV_8033&SUBSYS_309B103C&REV_00\4&13826118&0&23A4

I tried to fix it through Device Manager.  Device location is PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 6 device 4 function 3)  Status is Code 28 - no drivers installed.  I tried to reinstall driver but don't have an installation disc and don'tknow where else to find it.

Can I download the drivers from HP  support onto a USB device on another computer and reinstall from the USB device into this computer and which specific driver do I need to install?  Help much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Mass storage controller problem device

That's the TI media card reader, driver for XP is here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-33500/sp33439.exe

Though, if it was working before and now reporting problems in control panel, the reader might be having hardware problems.

Re: Mass storage controller problem device

Thanks CharlesHP.  Downloaded and installed which has it operating quite a bit faster now but the display still flickers and sound is distorted so I guess it's probably a hardware problem after all.  Is it a replaceable part or am I due for a new laptop?

Re: Mass storage controller problem device

Thank you so much CharlesHP for this information.  It really helped me.  I had tried installing any available downloads related to media drivers (for my HP Pavillion dv1040us) to get my digital media card reader to work again.  This worked right away.  After installing your linked download,  I took the card out of my camera put it in the slot and waa-la the light lite up and photo wizard started.  I was able to access pictures without all the trouble of connecting the camera with a cable and all that goes with that.

THANKS TRULY  !

Re: Mass storage controller problem device

[ Edited ]

So what would be the link if I have Win7?

I have an HP dv5139us laptop. Yesterday I updated from XP to Vista and to finally Win7.

I can't update the mass storage controller. On the device manager there's a yellow excalamation on it and when I double-click, the message "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" comes up.

After upgrading to Win7 I have no wireless connection..I have the Broadcom 802.11 Multiband Network Adapter and have updated it. Wired works fine.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Re: Mass storage controller problem device

Hello;  I found a post from CharlesHP with the link for my computer's media reader.  This is what worked for me and I do not know if the operating system makes a difference.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-33500/sp33439.exe

You could try this and if it doesn't help try looking up CharlesHP or information from him regarding your problem.

Re: Mass storage controller problem device DRIVER

Hi,  despite installing both SP30714 and  SP33439 while reviving an XP Pavilion dv5027EA, I still have a yellow mark on a pci slot 3 pci bus 6 device 4 function 4 that I cannot get rid of. Can you please help me?

Thanks a lot!!
