SSD UPGRADE

Hello!

I own a HP Probook 4740s - product no. C4Z45EA#ABU- running Windows 8.1 Pro. I want to replace the Hitachi 500 GBs with a ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GB.  I think the laptop is compatible with SATA III. The drive is coming with it's own software for image the HD. Am I going to face problems with the installation and practically what are the right steps for a successful installation?

Thank you in advance

Constantinos

Re: SSD UPGRADE

You can find all the technical specs from the product quick specs.

http%3A%2F%2Fh18004.www1.hp.com%2Fproducts%2Fquickspecs%2F14306_div%2F14306_div.pdf&ei=thvdUu37D8-UiQet5YCYDw&usg=AFQjCNGjXrEGXd2VGGuOv5xuSajmIx1GJA&sig2=PdeFg4hfFaizZQttjKsB6Q

According to the quick specs, your harddrive is sata 2, and it should be a 2.5inch format (i had the 2740p and it is a 1.8 inch format).

According to this website, you can grab a sata 3 and it should work on a sata 2.

As for installing windows, you could use the software provided, but I would suggest fresh install.

Here's my post on how to install windows 8.1 fresh OEM install.

Re: SSD UPGRADE

Hello again !

So far so good. Your instructions seems very helpfull.

Tomorrow I receive my new SSD drive and I am going to make the try. But it seems that I have another problem. I cannot install any cloning software. In every attempt I am taking this message :

''Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.''

I've try the Macrium Reflect and the Paragon Backup and Recovery.

Any ideas ?

Thank you

Re: SSD UPGRADE

Use easeus to do. There's a free version and it works. I tried paragon several times and let's just say, I wasted enough time and SSD writes on it.
